fission is less efficient, but IMO it doesn't really matter. salt is a large amount of processing, and fission gives you plenty of power with a good reactor design. if you are really looking for more power, then you can upgrade to a fusion reactor, but overall a fission reactor should be plenty unless you're playing a super power-hungry modpack.
